Q. What are the symptoms of West Nile virus infection?
A. Most people who are infected with the West Nile virus will not have any type of illness. It is estimated that 20% of the people who become infected will develop West Nile fever: mild symptoms, including fever, headache, and body aches, occasionally with a skin rash on the trunk of the body and swollen lymph glands.

Fine, Embot. I think I'm just feeling a little run down. So I've had a low-grade fever, swollen glands and body aches for about a week. That doesn't mean I have West Nile Virus.

Q. How long do symptoms last?
A. Symptoms of mild disease will generally last a few days.

OK, so I've felt crummy for a week. This too shall pass. Just because I had Lyme disease my family thinks I am predisposed to every newsworthy disease that comes along. Hey, I've made it through the summer without Monkeypox. I think I'll survive this.
