I’m feeling better......
having taken a lot of vitamin C and 2 naps. I decided against school in my nightgown, since Thursday is the day the lawn guys come thru. They always insist on blowing the leaves off the deck. Our school corner is right in front of the sliding door to the deck, so I would prefer to look dignified. Not to mention that I feel a certain shame in being in my nightgown while these guys are working their fingers to the bone. There is a certain futility in their job this time of year. (I would liken this to shoveling in a snow storm or trying to put out a forest fire by means of one’s urinary output.) But they are being paid for their efforts so I’m sure they aren’t too concerned with the wisdom behind their mission. This service is included in the homeowners association dues - I, personally, wouldn’t pay people to tidy up the yard once a week only to have a fresh load of leaves down in about six hours. I wonder if I gave the super-sonic blower guy a small gratuity, would he be willing to walk thru my house and just blow everything out the front door?
I’m feeling guilty....
about having said some uncharitable things about our new IL State Senator. Well, sort of. I read Fr. Jim Tucker’s homily for today and was especially touched by this paragraph:
We see in each human being, from the first moment of conception to the end of natural life, an incredibly beautiful creature, noble and wholly irreplaceable, a sacred dwelling of God's presence in the world. To fail in respect for each person's dignity is tantamount to sacrilege because, ultimately, respect for other people is inseparable from our obligation of reverence for God.
So, I’m feeling kind of bad for being so bitchy. So, I’ll pray for her. I’ll be polite to her if we should meet again. I’d even give her bone marrow if she needed it. But not my vote. Not unless she has a radical change of heart. So, I’ll pray for her.......
Thursday night!
I’ve fallen back into the ER habit, so I’ll jump into bed early tonight.
Has anybody else noticed the ads for a free bipolar test at WebMD? I found them vaguely disturbing.........and it finally dawned on me that the voice-over is (I’m 99.9% sure) done by Sherri Stringfield (sp.?) who isn’t a doctor but plays one on ER. What a nice subliminal way to plant a self diagnosis in a viewer’s mind.
