Time magazine is as well versed in Dickens as it is in Benedict XVI. To say that the 82-year-old Pope is also quite willing to play the part of Scrooge to defend his often rigid view of Church doctrine shows a level of understanding formed by other pop religion reporting and frequent viewings of Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol.*

Not that I am disparaging the Magoo vehicle. Especially with it's music by Bob Merrill and Jule Styne, it is way above your average cartoon musical - I'm humming "The Lord's Bright Blessing" as I write this - but Magoo in no way plumbs the depths of Scrooge's hollow soul.
