Who Took My Scapular?

(not to be confused with the previous post about my figurative cheese.)
When I was getting ready to shower yesterday morning, I realized my scapular was gone. This was the new, ‘good’ one, with St. Therese. Not the keep-in-the-drawer, cord shortened by multiple repairs, slight green patina on the wool scapular. Still can’t find it. I just hope one of the dogs didn’t eat it. There were several medals attached - ouch! (I posit this as a possibility since I did find Bessie the beagle gumming on it once when I return to my bedroom to dress.)
A family wit asked if it was like one of those red Kaballah bracelets that is to be worn until it rots and falls off.

No. And it is not worn with superstitious intent. And certainly not to deflect the evil eye. (Although a few canines are receiving the evil eye from me as I write this.)

I did see a fascinating interview on the local Fox morning news earlier in the week. They were talking with a rabbi who has studied Kaballah for over thirty years. He was quite fascinating and it was shame the segment couldn’t have run longer. It was fun to watch his bemusement with people like Madonna Esther and Britney Spears, who are jumping straight to a mystical tradition of a religion that they choose not to embrace. He had a nice working knowledge of Christian mysticism and talked some about St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross. (Now those are part of ‘Esther’s’ tradition. Do I want her promoting them? I think not. Not now. And where would she John of the Cross bottled water?) The best part was when he summed up the erstwhile Madonna’s Kaballah teaching as making her look like the guy in the Holiday Inn ads who says, “No, I’m not a brain surgeon, but I did stay in a great hotel last night.”

He’s giving a lecture somewhere in the Chicago area in the near future. Didn’t write down the date or address because I knew it was something I wouldn’t be able to attend. Too bad. And he seemed like a guy who be a lot of fun to lunch with, too.
