EMERGENCY VISIT SUMMARY:
Presenting Complaint: Bessie presented on 6-10-04 at 8:15PM for right front leg lameness.
History:
Bessie got loose for a few hours this morning and came home limping on the right front leg. As the day progressed the foot has become mre swollen and she will not use it now.
Physical Examination:
Temp - 102.3; Pulse 140/good; Respiration = pant
Weight:13.400 kg.
Appearance: normal (if you are a dog)
Oral Cavity: muzzled
(good idea!)
Comments: DDx: Soft tissue trauma, puncture wound, fracture, open.
X-Rays:film taken of the right front foot. No fractures noted. Soft tissue swelling noted at the base of the pad of the fourth digit. Linear objects noted along the base of pads. Possible external or internal fb.
Start anti-inflammatory meds and antibiotic ASAP. Bessie will see regular DVM in a.m. for wound care w/ sedation.
If I’m covering the bill until Fran’s payday, I expect to keep the X-ray. Doggie phalanges.....interesting. How much? Don't ask. All I can say is I was limping badly last week and I wouldn't have paid that amount for my own relief.
