It’s not about the money, stupid.
Last night at work I was fishing in the recycling bin for some scrap paper. I pulled out the February 20 edition of the National Catholic Distorter. Because I was a tad bored and sleepy, perhaps reading a bit of this rag (which was just where it belonged) would give me the adrenaline charge I needed to finish the day.

Where do I begin? It’s a busy day...I don’t have time to rant about the whole thing so I’ll go straight to my favorite letter to the editor. This writer has solved the vocation crisis. Double the average yearly salary for priests. Right now the average priest is making just a tiny bit above what could be considered minimum wage. Hike that up to $30,000 a year and you’ll have vocations galor. Duh? I thought a vocation was an interior call with no monetary offer attached. I have the honor of working for the priests in my parish. They work hard. They are there for the people - 24/7, to use an overworked phrase. Their work is priceless. If it were a matter of money, I would have to say that I wouldn’t want their ‘jobs’ if they paid $300,000.... What an insult to imply that there would be more priests if the pay were doubled.
