I Can’t Get No Satisfaction
or
You Can’t Always Borrow What You Want

Kathryn Lively’s on-going pursuit of unattractive pics of the Rolling Stones reminds me of my unfortunate library experience....

Below is my favorite library. Sorry, Embot, I love your library because you work there. This library is bigger and better.

The bad news is that this library is closed for 2 weeks for carpet replacement, etc.I was not the only patron who dropped in on Saturday to hoard as much material as possible. We are welcome at an assortment of surrounding libraries, but knowing that this library will be closed for two weeks has incited distress in many bibliophiles.

The consolation prize in my ‘final’ library trip was finding a copy of the Rolling Stones’ 40 Licks. A CD I would like to have but do not really find worthy of spending my hard earned money on. Unlike the Beatles and the Beach Boys, I do not particularly want my children familiarized with complete Stones’ oeuvre. But nothing helps start me up for serious house work like a little early Mick and the boys. Since Rick had recently traded some computer equipment for some other equipment that includes a CD burner, I have had him making me little copies (for my use only - I know it’s still piracy and feel bad etc. But not too bad) So imagine my distress when disc 1 - the really old classic stuff - was so scratched as to be unplayable. So now I have a copy of disc 2. OK, but I really want disc 1. Time to start cruising the other local libraries.

PS - Those 'things' on the library lawn are rusty sculptures representing books. This installation was a big deal. Created a lot of 'buzz' in the local art and/or book community. A love it or hate it sort of thing. I hate it.
